April is Alcohol Awareness Month, an annual observance dedicated to increasing public understanding of alcohol use disorder and reducing the stigma that too often prevents people from seeking help.
At Soul Solutions, this month is a meaningful reminder of why accessible, compassionate care matters so deeply to our community.
Alcohol use disorder, commonly referred to as AUD, is one of the most prevalent substance use disorders in the United States. According to the 2024 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, nearly 27.9 million Americans aged 12 and older met the criteria for AUD in the past year.
Yet despite how common it is, only a small fraction of those individuals ever receive treatment. The barriers are real: stigma, cost, lack of awareness, and the deeply held belief that struggling with alcohol is a personal failure rather than a health condition that deserves care.
That last point matters most. Alcohol use disorder is a chronic, treatable condition. It is not a lack of willpower. Like other chronic conditions, it responds to evidence-based care, consistent support, and a compassionate environment where individuals feel safe being honest about their struggles.
Treatment looks different for everyone. At Soul Solutions, we offer a full continuum of outpatient care designed to meet people where they are. Every person receives an individualized approach because no two paths to recovery are the same. And because alcohol use disorder rarely affects just one person, our Family Program is available to anyone who loves someone struggling with addiction.
If you or someone you know has been wondering whether it might be time to talk to someone, we are here. Walk-in screenings are available Monday through Friday, 8 to 11 am, no appointment needed.
